English for children of IDPs and socially vulnerable groups

The team behind "Barrier-Free Conditions for Learning and Improving English among Children of IDPs and Socially Vulnerable Groups" has reached a new level thanks to its win in the FUNdraiser project. Team captain Yuliia Koruma gladly answered our questions, shared the story of their success, and told us about the team and their plans for the future.

"We learned about FUNdraiser from our institution's administration and immediately decided to take part. It was a chance to make our dream come true," says Yuliia. The team's main goal is to create a barrier-free space for learning English among children of IDPs and socially vulnerable groups. The team implementing the project consists of seven people: Yuliia is the leader, three colleagues work as tutors and facilitators, and three teenagers aged 14-15 help in the club with peers like themselves. "We gathered a team of like-minded people and we are moving towards a common goal," Yuliia shares. The team's motto is "Onward to the dream," and it draws the most inspiration from the results of its work.

What sets this project apart from others? According to Yuliia, the team has created a special programme of English lessons for different age groups. This approach will help raise the community's intellectual level and give children and adults more opportunities.

"FUNdraiser gave us new knowledge and skills in fundraising. It is a very valuable experience. The programme is step by step and easy to absorb. Taking part in the fundraising challenge strengthened us to the maximum," Yuliia emphasises.

Asked to share her plans for the future, Yuliia says the team plans to introduce additional lessons for community members who can pay, in order to sustain the club for IDPs and socially vulnerable groups. They also have ambitions to sign memoranda of cooperation with various city bodies. In this way, the team is working on the sustainability of its project once FUNdraiser ends.

The team strongly advises other youth organisations not to stand still, but to move forward and boldly pursue their dream. "Dreams come true. The main thing is to act," Yuliia concludes.

The "Barrier-Free Conditions for Learning and Improving English among Children of IDPs and Socially Vulnerable Groups" project is ambitious and persistent. Its success at FUNdraiser proves that any challenge can be overcome when you work with like-minded people and move towards a shared dream.

The "Fundraising Challenge" project is implemented by the NGO "International Agency for Change" with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine and the financial support of the European Union, provided within the project "EU4Recovery, Empowering Communities in Ukraine".
