A Grant Mosaic: Open Opportunities for Development

Ukraine, as a country that has faced significant challenges and transformations, continues to show incredible resilience and innovation in its development. Today, access to grant programmes has become one of the key factors in ensuring the sustainable development of various spheres of life. The diverse grant initiatives described below open the door to innovation and community development, and help support a variety of social and cultural projects.

1) The "Amplifying Ukrainian Voices for International Support of Ukraine" competition from the IRF

The aim of the competition is to amplify Ukrainian voices in shaping the agenda of the European discussion about Ukraine in order to increase international support for Ukraine.

Eligibility: civil society organisations, unions, associations, societies and other associations registered as non-profit or charitable organisations

*Preference will be given to projects that will be implemented in partnership and cooperation with European colleagues

Competition priorities:

• support for foreign-language (in English and other European languages) versions of independent Ukrainian media and special projects, reports, and analytical materials about events in Ukraine for a European audience, prepared in cooperation with European media;

• creating and distributing content in various forms;

• organising and/or participating in high-profile public events and media appearances together with European partners for the sake of international support for Ukraine.

Competition projects may include awareness-raising activities for an international audience, the preparation of analytical documents, articles and social media content, holding public events, discussions and so on.

Grant size: from UAH 800,000 to UAH 1,200,000

2) A grant programme for universities (displaced as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war) from "Dream and Act"

The aim of the programme is to help restore the higher education system and strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions that were relocated (displaced) after the full-scale invasion.

Eligibility: CSOs, Ukrainian representative offices of international organisations with non-profit status, and state higher education institutions (HEIs) with the status of a HEI displaced as a result of the full-scale invasion

*Applications are submitted by an NGO in partnership/consortium with a target HEI

Priority areas of the competition:

• improving digital infrastructure;

• improving student support services, including mental health and psychosocial support.

*Priority will be given to HEIs displaced from temporarily occupied territories or frontline zones, with a large number of students and a good track record of preserving quality education

Areas of funding:

• costs of purchasing equipment/technology;

• costs of purchasing/developing software;

• costs of training/consultations aimed at improving student services;

• costs of training/consultations aimed at improving psychosocial support services for students and faculty;

• other costs.

Grant size: from USD 5,000 to USD 25,000

*A co-contribution is encouraged but not mandatory

3) Grants for international cooperation projects, "Culture Helps"

Cooperation between organisations must focus on integration through culture for people who were forced to leave their homes because of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

Eligibility: non-profit organisations, public or private bodies (subject to confirmation of the organisation's non-profit status) located in Ukraine or another Creative Europe country

The project idea should be:

• focused on displaced persons or refugees;

• promote their integration into a new context through culture in order to foster dialogue and mutual understanding;

• offer activities that respond to the processing of war trauma and support their mental health.

A collaboration can bring together 2 or 3 partner organisations. Each collaboration requires at least 1 partner from Ukraine and 1 partner from another country of the Creative Europe programme.

Grant size: up to EUR 25,000 for delivering projects with two organisations and up to EUR 40,000 with three

4) "Holding the Line" - a competition to support veteran initiatives from the International Renaissance Foundation

Eligibility: charitable organisations, NGOs,

• with proven experience of working before 2023 in the field of supporting service members, veterans (men and women), and the families of prisoners of war, the fallen and the missing;

• with experience of receiving and using charitable donations through the organisation's accounts, with public financial and substantive reporting;

• with experience of support, cooperation or interaction with local self-government bodies, and/or state institutions, and/or military-civil administrations (memoranda, letters of support, examples of joint activities).

Support is provided under the following thematic priorities:

• rehabilitation, physical and mental, of service members and veterans (men and women), and the effective organisation of rehabilitation processes in communities;

• legal, social, psychological and informational services for service members, veterans (men and women) and members of their families;

• facilitating reintegration and preparing communities for the return of veterans (men and women);

• caring for the families of service members, "those who wait", prisoners of war, the fallen and the missing;

• building professional and effective veteran hubs in communities that are focused on quality services and on advancing effective solutions for the veteran community.

* Project proposals must envisage substantive activity by the organisation under one or more of the thematic priorities.

5) Grant competition "Engaging young men and women in the recovery of Ukraine through youth exchanges"

1️⃣ LOT 1

Eligibility: non-profit youth organisations and/or organisations that work with young people, in particular charitable organisations, NGOs and public unions officially registered in Ukraine for at least 3 years.

Aim of LOT 1: selecting a CSO that will provide coordination support for the successful running of 24 youth exchanges, along with methodological support and training for the staff of youth centres / CSOs.

Grant size: up to USD 60,000

2️⃣ LOT 2

Eligibility: non-profit youth organisations and/or organisations that work with young people, in particular charitable organisations, NGOs and public unions officially registered in Ukraine.

Aim of LOT 2: selecting youth centres and/or youth CSOs that will act as coordination centres for organising youth exchanges under the VIDNOVA:UA National Youth Exchange Programme

Grant size: up to USD 18,000

6) Grant competition for projects to improve the protection of the civilian population in target communities from CIVIC

Eligibility: local civil society organisations.

*Priority will be given to local initiatives. CIVIC supports organisations without prior experience. If there is motivation and capacity, CIVIC can help with registering a civil society organisation. This could be your first grant.

Geography: the competition will be held in the Mena, Novobilous, Ivanivka and Sedniv communities of Chernihiv oblast.

Project aim: supporting local civil society organisations in addressing pressing needs for the protection of the civilian population based on community priorities and in cooperation with local authorities and other institutions/agencies/organisations responsible for protecting the civilian population at community level.

Grant size: from USD 5,000 to USD 12,000

7) USAID announces the "Justice for All" Annual Program Statement

Programme goals:

• helping CSOs to deliver programmes aimed at strengthening the independence, accountability and effectiveness of the justice system and its institutions;

• strengthening the role of CSOs in improving access to justice-system services and the quality of those services in line with people's needs, as well as diversifying the paths to justice;

• strengthening the capacity of CSOs to promote the accountability of the justice system and its services, and to grow public demand for the successful completion of judicial reform.

8) The "Perform Europe" competition from the "Creative Europe" programme

Eligibility: any organisation and professional in the field of the performing arts legally operating in one of the Creative Europe Countries

Perform Europe is a programme that supports partnership projects that rethink the way artists tour across borders.

5% of the funding will be directed towards projects that involve partnership with Ukrainian partners or support initiatives in the Ukrainian performing arts sector.

Competition priorities:

• inclusion and diversity;

• tackling climate change.

*In addition, all proposals must be aimed at quality and innovation, and be based on fair principles

Application conditions:

• applications are submitted by partnerships, which must consist of at least 3 partners and 3 countries where the "Creative Europe" programme operates;

• each application must include at least 1 completed work of performing art (a finished production or an artistic concept), ready to be presented in various contexts

Grant size:

• small partnership projects - EUR 12,000;

• medium partnership projects - EUR 32,000;

• large partnership projects - EUR 60,000.

9) The "European Cultural and Creative Organisations" competition within the "Creative Europe" programme

Eligibility: representative, multinational, membership-based networks of European cultural organisations that span a wide range of countries participating in Creative Europe

The competition aims to strengthen the capacity of the European cultural and creative sectors to withstand common challenges and to nurture talent, innovate, thrive, create jobs and grow.

Proposals must address the following priority challenges:

• artists and cultural workers: empowering the cultural and creative sectors;

• culture for people: increasing cultural participation and the role of culture in society;

• culture for the planet: unleashing the power of culture;

• culture for co-creative partnerships: strengthening the cultural dimension of the EU's external relations;

• culture for digital transformation: helping the European cultural and creative sectors to take full advantage of new technologies to boost their competitiveness.

Total budget of the competition for 2024: EUR 9,925,000
