Overview of Grant Programmes: Initiatives and Opportunities for Development in Ukraine

Ukraine is actively searching for new opportunities to develop and support a variety of initiatives. In this context, grant programmes are becoming an important tool for helping to bring projects and ideas to life. Let’s take a look at some of the most relevant grants available to Ukrainian organisations and initiatives in 2024.

1. Sub-grant “Building models for the reintegration of veterans into the agricultural sector” from USAID AGRO

The purpose of the sub-grant is to ensure the economic reintegration of veterans by involving them in work in the agricultural sector and strengthening their professional and entrepreneurial skills.

Who it is for: Ukrainian non-governmental business entities (with the exception of sole proprietors) and non-governmental organisations that have experience in at least 1 of the proposed areas of activity.

Areas of activity:

• developing a methodology and technical approach to the economic reintegration of veterans into the agricultural sphere;

• preparing a roadmap for veterans’ path into agricultural enterprises, and preparing the workforce to work with veterans;

• information and advisory support on the employment of veterans in the agricultural sphere;

• an information campaign to support veterans in finding employment;

• identifying the needs of veterans and the needs of agricultural enterprises for specialists;

• conducting career-guidance work and developing/adapting training programmes;

• conducting professional training and internships, and sharing the experience gained;

• other activities.

Grant amount: UAH 9,125,000 for 1 or 2 sub-grants

*An own contribution is not required, but its presence will be considered an advantage.

2. A new acceleration programme aimed at expanding opportunities for Ukrainian startups at the seed and growth stages

3. Grant competition: Expanding Production of Independent Content, wave II

The NGO “Internews-Ukraine,” with the support of the international organisation Internews, announces an open competition to participate in the second wave of the local component of the project “Expanding Production of Independent Content” (EPIC). We invite independent national and regional media, as well as producers of YouTube content, from all over Ukraine to take part.

MEDIA PROJECT BUDGET

The competition winners will receive grants of up to USD 7,000* to produce six pieces of content and adapt them for distribution on social media, as well as advisory support. The funds cover production costs, team salaries and other necessary expenses. *This volume of resources will be allocated subject to the availability of funds.

4. Regional competition “Charitable Odeshchyna-2023”

In Odesa oblast, the regional stage of the National Competition “Charitable Ukraine, 2023”, “Charitable Odeshchyna-2023”, has been announced. The regional partner of the Ukrainian Philanthropists Association in Odesa oblast is, as usual, the “Caritas Odesa UGCC” Charitable Foundation.

5. UNDP announces a grant for implementing a Programme on preventing offences through partnership-based interaction between the police and the public in Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts

This announcement contains information about a grant competition held by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine under the strand “Implementing a Programme to support the prevention of offences and other negative phenomena through partnership-based interaction between the police and the public” for non-governmental organisations operating in Ukraine (in territories controlled by the Government of Ukraine), and explains the procedure for submitting project proposals. The announcement sets out the eligibility criteria for the competition, the process for submitting and selecting project proposals, and the evaluation criteria for the projects that will be selected under this competition.

6. Grant competition “Building the future of Ukrainian logistics and exports”

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project “Economic Support for Ukraine” (the USAID Project) announces the opening of grant applications under the Annual Program Statement APS-ERA-003 “Building the future of Ukrainian logistics and exports.”

The purpose of this Annual Program Statement (the Statement) is to receive applications for grant funding to achieve two important goals of Ukraine’s economic recovery: 1) building the export and logistics potential of agriculture with an emphasis on grain trade; and 2) improving export infrastructure, technologies and processes along Ukraine’s western borders.

7. Grant competition in the field of mental health care and psychosocial support

This grant competition is announced under the project “Building a Resilient Public Health System” (hereinafter, the “Project”), funded by USAID and implemented by Pact. The aim of the Project is to strengthen Ukraine’s capacity at the national, regional and local levels to respond effectively to public health priorities and challenges, both during the war and during post-war reconstruction. Recognising that the mental health of a population affected by war is an urgent public health priority, the Project is continuously expanding its mental health programmes and supports the provision of mental health care and psychosocial support (hereinafter, “MHPSS”) services to individuals, families and communities affected by war-related trauma and violence. As part of these efforts, the Project is seeking new partners, Ukrainian organisations ready to join in implementing awareness-raising and outreach programmes with evidence-based MHPSS services, as well as expanding or improving existing entry points for clients (for example, primary healthcare facilities, schools, community organisations, veterans’ spaces, social service centres).

8. Regional competition “Charitable Zakarpattia”

In Zakarpattia oblast, the regional stage of the National Competition “Charitable Ukraine, 2023”, “Charitable Zakarpattia -2023”, is being launched for the first time. The regional partner of the Ukrainian Philanthropists Association in Zakarpattia oblast is the “Tree of My Life” Charitable Foundation.

Through this competition, the Ukrainian Philanthropists Association, together with the “Tree of My Life” Charitable Foundation, seeks to honour the best philanthropists, patrons and volunteers in the country and the region, their organisations, and the staff of institutions and organisations that worked to defend our country in 2023.

9. The IT company EPAM Ukraine and ISAR Ednannia are launching a joint programme for the civic sector

The project “The Power of Digital Solutions for the Civic Sector” is an intensive programme by EPAM Ukraine and ISAR Ednannia aimed at mastering modern digital tools to increase the effectiveness and visibility of civil society organisations’ initiatives.

We invite representatives of civil society and charitable organisations to join a unique initiative to digitalise their projects.

10. Competition: developing recommendations for improving healthcare budgeting at the local level

The USAID project “Supporting Healthcare Reform” (hereinafter, the Project) announces a competition for a grant to conduct an analysis of practices in selected regions and to develop recommendations for improving healthcare budgeting at the local level.

The purpose of this grant is to study existing healthcare budgeting practices at the local level in eight selected regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Mykolaiv oblasts). A thorough analysis of the collected data will make it possible to identify current problems in the formation and implementation of local healthcare programmes, barriers to their effective implementation, and to formulate recommendations for improving healthcare budgeting at the local level.

The total grant amount will not exceed UAH 5,680,000. The grant type is a fixed-amount grant.
