A selection of grants to support reforms and innovation in Ukraine

Grant roundup to support reforms and innovation in Ukraine

Ukraine faces major challenges in the area of reforms and innovation. From healthcare to support for small and medium-sized enterprises, the country needs additional resources and support to achieve significant change. Grant programs from various international and national organizations are becoming an important tool to advance these efforts. In this roundup, we look at several current grant initiatives aimed at supporting reforms and innovation across various spheres of Ukrainian society.

1. Support for healthcare reform from USAID

Budget: up to USD 1,000,000

Announcement of an Open Grant Program for representatives of civil society (including non-governmental academic institutions, think tanks and/or professional associations), patient organizations and advocacy groups, healthcare facilities and community-level organizations.

2. The USAID "Justice for All" program announces its Annual Program Statement

Budget: 25 grants totaling approximately UAH 55,000,000.

The USAID "Justice for All" program announces that it is beginning to accept concept notes for grant projects aimed at strengthening the justice system and its services, as well as involving civil society in developing effective solutions to legal problems and meeting Ukrainians' needs for justice.

3. "BOLD IDEAS" GRANT COMPETITION FROM USAID

Budget: FROM USD 25,000 TO USD 80,000

The "Bold Ideas" grant competition is "a chance to receive funding for a creative and innovative project" that goes beyond standard ideas and aligns with the goals and priorities of the "Dream and Act" program, fostering the development of the potential of young people aged 10-35.

4. RECONSTRUCTION SUPPORT GRANT FROM DEVELOPPP

Budget: EUR 2,000,000

Financial support for companies ready to seek business opportunities in Ukraine and take part in its reconstruction despite the challenges of wartime, that is the goal of this competition, held under the funding program of Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Funding will be allocated based on a competition of business ideas. There are no limits on the timing of applications or on the number of winners under the terms: all project proposals received will be reviewed, and the most promising and relevant will receive funding.

5. Seeds of Bravery (UASEEDs) - grants for Ukrainian innovative technology businesses

The project opens up an opportunity for Ukrainian innovative technology small and medium-sized enterprises (startups and scaleups) across five different programs to support companies' integration into European innovation ecosystems.

1) INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Who it is for: women-led innovative startups with a technology readiness level of TRL 3 or above.

Grant size: up to EUR 25,000 to support business continuity, creation or relaunch in Ukraine and beyond.

Deadline: 25.04.2025

2) DEEP TECH INCUBATORS

Who it is for: early-stage startups engaged in pre-MVP activities, at TRL 4 or above.

Grant size: up to EUR 25,000 for user or demand testing, prototype validation and other pre-MVP innovative activities to verify the value proposition and develop their first MVP.

Deadline: 25.04.2025

3) RECONSTRUCTION

Who it is for: innovative technology SMEs at TRL 7 or above.

Grant size: up to EUR 25,000 to support and develop innovative products or services that meet the demand for rapid post-war reconstruction in priority areas, for both individuals and the state.

Deadline: 25.04.2025

4) DEEP TECH SCALING AND ACCELERATION

Who it is for: innovative technology SMEs at a TRL equal to or above TRL 7 that are aimed at rapidly reaching/expanding into markets.

Grant size: up to EUR 50,000 to scale into EU and global markets (updating business plans, user/demand testing, feasibility studies and other large-scale activities).

6. "Recover and Export" advisory initiative from the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Who it is for: micro, small or medium-sized enterprises that are able to produce a product the company plans to export and are registered in territories under the control of the Government of Ukraine.

* Preference is given to relocated companies that have a product with export potential, have not halted their production process and are eager to develop exports.

Free consultations are provided on the following topics:

- choosing new markets;

- finding potential partners and buyers;

- product certification and market requirements;

- product labeling for sale on foreign markets;

- increasing sales volumes;

- customs matters - contracts, documents, origin of goods, transportation;

- multichannel sales, international digital platforms, e-commerce;

- product promotion, marketing strategies;

- registering company profiles on well-known online marketplaces;

- business ideas, partnerships and innovation;

- other matters that require clarification and support.

Deadline to join the program: 01.05.2024

Only 250 companies in total will receive consultations, so hurry to take part.

7. Bravery launches five new support programs for Ukrainian tech startups and SMEs that offer innovative solutions, services or products

Grants ranging from EUR 10,000 to EUR 50,000 are available under the following programs:

Deep Tech Incubators

Reconstruction of Ukraine

Deep Tech Scaling and Acceleration

8. Annual Program Statement USAID/UKaid SOERA

The State-Owned Enterprises Reform Activity (SOERA), funded by USAID/UKaid, is pleased to announce the release of our Annual Program Statement (APS) for 2024 for grant funding. This Annual Program Statement (APS) contains important information about our grant program for engaging relevant participants from Ukrainian civil society who share common goals with the objectives of the SOERA program. The APS gives potential applicants a significant opportunity to engage with our program and receive grant funding to support their initiatives in line with SOERA's mission and goals.
