Ukraine continues to move actively toward development and modernisation, thanks to a wide range of grant programmes offered by both domestic and international organisations. Grants are becoming not only a financing tool but also an important catalyst for turning innovative ideas into reality, supporting entrepreneurship, driving technological development and delivering social projects. In this article we look at the most relevant grant opportunities across various fields of activity in Ukraine.

1) EUR 11 million: the EU and Germany will provide 100 grants of EUR 10,000 to Ukrainian businesses

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Ukraine with export capacity and innovation potential are eligible to take part in the programme.

Each grant is worth up to EUR 10,000 for recovery, development and resilience in wartime.

The competition is open to MSMEs working in the following areas:

- manufacturing (mechanical engineering, furniture, food and light industry);

- creative industries;

- logistics and transport;

- other sectors with export or innovation potential (for example, educational and medical services).

2) Seeds of Bravery, a project supporting Ukrainian innovative deep-tech startups, for which the EU has allocated EUR 20 million

The organisers provide grants of up to EUR 60,000 to Ukrainian startups. Applicants are offered leadership programmes and entrepreneurial education, market research is carried out for them, and they are introduced to investors. Special attention is paid to developing women's tech entrepreneurship.

3) Support for healthcare reform from USAID

An announcement of an Open Grant Programme for civil society representatives (including non-governmental academic institutions, think tanks and/or professional associations), patient organisations and advocacy groups, healthcare facilities and community-level organisations.

4) The USAID «Competitive Economy of Ukraine» programme announces a grant programme to support the development of Ukrainian medium and large processing enterprises

Budget: USD 10 million. Under the programme, around 30 grants ranging from USD 150,000 to USD 500,000 will be awarded.

The grant programme will support Ukrainian medium and large processing enterprises in activities that help expand production, create new innovative products and modernise. The initiative aims to create new jobs in Ukraine and increase sales of goods in both domestic and foreign markets.

5) ZMINA.Rebuilding: grants for projects on Ukraine's recovery.

This is a chance to receive funding for a cultural or creative project that will start a dialogue about Ukraine's recovery. Create a performance about Ukrainian women refugees abroad, capture the life of de-occupied cities on film, or run a participatory workshop on designing the cities of the future, you will have six months to bring the idea to life in Ukraine. Budget: up to EUR 10,000.

6) EU4Business: grants for Ukrainian small and medium-sized businesses for recovery and development.

Under the EU4Business programme, funded by the European Union and the Government of Germany, Ukrainian micro, small and medium-sized businesses with export capacity and innovation potential can receive 100 grants of up to EUR 10,000 each for recovery, development and resilience.

8) The USAID «Justice for All» programme announces an Annual Grant Programme

The USAID «Justice for All» programme announces that it is opening the intake of grant project concepts aimed at strengthening the justice system and its services, as well as engaging civil society in developing effective solutions to legal problems and meeting Ukrainians' needs for justice. Budget: 25 grants for a total of approximately UAH 55,000,000.

9) Competition to organise vocational and technical training, Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv

The separate subdivision of Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation is looking for partner organisations in the Sumy, Poltava and Kharkiv regions to organise high-quality 2-3-month training in vocational and technical trades during April-May 2024.

The activities are being carried out as part of the project "Supporting the recovery of the social and financial resilience of communities in war-affected regions in eastern and western Ukraine", implemented with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Budget: the average amount allocated for organising one training course is EUR 3,000.
