New Grant Initiatives for the Development of Ukraine

Ukraine is developing actively across various sectors, and grant programmes are becoming an important tool for supporting initiatives aimed at social and economic development. New initiatives provide opportunities to launch projects targeting a variety of aspects of public life.

1. Sub-grant to implement a project on preventing corruption in land relations and protecting the rights of landowners and land users, from USAID AGRO

Who it is for: non-governmental organisations, human rights organisations, business associations or law firms.

Sub-grant activities may include, but are not limited to:

• collecting and consolidating data on manifestations of corruption in land relations and violations of the rights of landowners and land users;

• preparing and publishing quarterly reviews of the state of corruption and rights violations in the field of land relations;

• monitoring and analysing draft regulations in the field of land relations for the presence of corruption risks;

• legal and advisory assistance to affected farmers, communities, landowners and land users on matters of countering corruption;

• developing and delivering a series of online training courses on countering corruption in the field of land relations;

• preparing training materials on protecting the rights of landowners and land users and on countering corruption;

• holding at least 3 regional training events offline and 2 events online on countering corruption and raiding in the field of land relations.

Grant amount: up to UAH 5,685,000

An online seminar with clarifications on how to complete the application form will take place on 28.02.2024 from 15:00 to 17:00.

2. Competition “Strengthening Ukrainian voices for international support of Ukraine” from IRF

The purpose of the competition is to strengthen Ukrainian voices in shaping the agenda of the European discussion about Ukraine, in order to increase international support for Ukraine.

Who it is for: civil society organisations, unions, associations, societies and other associations registered as non-profit or charitable organisations.

*Preference will be given to projects implemented in partnership and cooperation with European colleagues.

Competition priorities:

• supporting foreign-language (in English and other European languages) versions of independent Ukrainian media and special projects, reports and analytical materials about events in Ukraine for a European audience, prepared in cooperation with European media;

• creating and distributing content in various forms;

• organising and/or participating in landmark public events and media appearances together with European partners for the sake of international support of Ukraine.

Competition projects may involve awareness-raising activities for an international audience, the preparation of analytical documents, articles and social media content, and the holding of public events, discussions and the like.

Grant amount: from UAH 800,000 to UAH 1,200,000

3. Grant programme for higher education institutions (displaced as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war) from “Dream and Act”

The purpose of the programme is to help restore the higher education system and strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions that were relocated (displaced) after the full-scale invasion.

Who it is for: CSOs, Ukrainian representative offices of international organisations with non-profit status, and state higher education institutions (HEIs) with the status of a HEI displaced as a result of the full-scale invasion.

*Applications are submitted by an NGO in partnership/consortium with a target HEI.

Priority areas of the competition:

• improving digital infrastructure;

• improving student support services, including mental health and psychosocial support.

*Priority will be given to HEIs displaced from temporarily occupied territories or frontline zones, with a large number of students and a good track record of preserving quality education.

Areas of funding:

• costs of purchasing equipment/technology;

• costs of purchasing/developing software;

• costs of training/consultations aimed at improving student services;

• costs of training/consultations aimed at improving psychosocial support services for students and faculty.

• other costs.

Grant amount: from $5,000 to $25,000

*An own contribution is encouraged but not mandatory.

4. Sub-grant “Building models for the reintegration of veterans into the agricultural sector” from USAID AGRO

The purpose of the sub-grant is to ensure the economic reintegration of veterans by involving them in work in the agricultural sector and strengthening their professional and entrepreneurial skills.

Who it is for: Ukrainian non-governmental business entities (with the exception of sole proprietors) and non-governmental organisations that have experience in at least 1 of the proposed areas of activity.

Areas of activity:

• developing a methodology and technical approach to the economic reintegration of veterans into the agricultural sphere;

• preparing a roadmap for veterans’ path into agricultural enterprises, and preparing the workforce to work with veterans;

• information and advisory support on the employment of veterans in the agricultural sphere;

• an information campaign to support veterans in finding employment;

• identifying the needs of veterans and the needs of agricultural enterprises for specialists;

• conducting career-guidance work and developing/adapting training programmes;

• conducting professional training and internships, and sharing the experience gained;

• other activities.

Grant amount: UAH 9,125,000 for 1 or 2 sub-grants

*An own contribution is not required, but its presence will be considered an advantage.

5. Annual Program Statement on increasing the resilience of Ukrainian civil society to disinformation from IREX

Who it is for: foundations, non-governmental organisations, non-profit organisations, religious organisations, community organisations, private organisations affiliated with academic institutions and international non-governmental organisations, private companies, and professional associations.

The main goal of the programme is to increase the resilience of Ukrainian civil society to disinformation by supporting CSOs that implement projects and by developing their organisational capacity, namely:

• reducing the influence of disinformation and propaganda narratives by creating alternative content and tools that meet the needs of audiences;

• fostering an inclusive understanding of national identity to counter disinformation narratives, with a focus on frontline regions;

• countering the most popular sources and channels of propaganda by exposing their inconsistency with truthful information and demonstrating alternatives;

• improving media literacy and developing the critical thinking skills of the target audience through training, seminars and educational materials.

Grant amount: from $40,000 to $300,000

*The majority of funding is expected to be provided during the first 2 rounds of application review.

6. Project “The Power of Digital Solutions for the Civic Sector” from EPAM Ukraine and ISAR Ednannia

The programme is aimed at mastering modern digital tools to increase the effectiveness and visibility of civil society organisations’ initiatives.

Who it is for: CSO teams of 3+ members (or a team made up of several NGOs or charitable organisations) interested in developing digital competencies and integrating the latest technologies into their work and projects.

The programme is open to ideas in the following areas:

• educational projects or projects for educational institutions;

• technology for social change (developing IT products to solve social challenges, or calculating energy efficiency, tracking environmental indicators, improving access to healthcare);

• e-learning and distance education;

• help for small businesses (from CRM systems to websites and apps).

Participants can expect:

• mentoring support from the project’s experts;

• exclusive workshops: from digital security to Agile methodology;

• a chance for winners to receive professional support from EPAM Ukraine;

• the opportunity to meet like-minded people and exchange experience with leaders of other organisations.

Programme stages:

• 18.03 - 05.04.2024 - training and work on projects with mentors;

• 15.04.2024 - the culmination, in the form of a pitching event in Kyiv.

The pitching winners will receive support with the IT development of their initiative from EPAM Ukraine.

7. Competition to take part in the programme for internally displaced women “Women’s Leadership in Times of War” from IFES

The purpose of the programme is to develop leadership skills and potential in women.

Who it is for: internally displaced women who have an active civic stance and are ready to engage in civic and political processes and to develop and support women’s leadership and equal partnership.

*Women with disabilities and representatives of national communities and LGBTQ+ communities are encouraged to participate.

Participants’ fields of activity:

• media representatives;

• civic activists;

• volunteers;

• women war veterans;

• representatives of civil society organisations, political parties, local self-government and local authorities.

Programme stages:

• 11.04 - 14.04.2024 - a three-day offline training;

• 30.04 - 01.05.2024 - a training session on developing initiatives and writing project applications;

• May, June 2024 - a competition of projects that receive IFES support for implementation;

• July, December 2024 - implementation of the participants’ initiatives.

Costs related to accommodation, meals and transport are covered by the organisers.

8. Grant competition in the field of mental health care and psychosocial support from Pact

The purpose of the competition is to improve the accessibility and sustainability of evidence-based mental health care and psychosocial support (hereinafter MHPSS) services for the population affected by the war.

Who it is for: officially registered non-governmental organisations from all regions of Ukraine.

Areas of activity:

• engaging community leaders and residents, healthcare workers and other stakeholders in the joint development of MHPSS programmes;

• developing and implementing a plan for delivering MHPSS services;

• ensuring proper training and education of MHPSS service providers;

• implementing quality assurance standards and mechanisms for monitoring the quality of MHPSS services, meeting clients’ needs and adhering to ethical standards;

• introducing a data management system for monitoring, evaluating and reporting on MHPSS services and activities implemented under the grant;

• developing a plan to ensure the sustainability of the proposed MHPSS services and activities after the grant period ends.

Grant amount: up to $100,000
