1. Grant competition “Building the future of Ukrainian logistics and exports”

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project “Economic Support for Ukraine” announces the opening of grant applications under the Annual Program Statement APS-ERA-003 “Building the future of Ukrainian logistics and exports.”

The purpose of this Annual Program Statement is to receive applications for grant funding to achieve two important goals of Ukraine’s economic recovery: 1) building the export and logistics potential of agriculture with an emphasis on grain trade; and 2) improving export infrastructure, technologies and processes along Ukraine’s western borders.

2. Grant competition in the field of mental health care and psychosocial support

This grant competition is announced under the project “Building a Resilient Public Health System,” funded by USAID and implemented by Pact. The aim of the project is to strengthen Ukraine’s capacity at the national, regional and local levels to respond effectively to public health priorities and challenges, both during the war and during post-war reconstruction.

Recognising that the mental health of a population affected by war is an urgent public health priority, the project is continuously expanding its mental health programmes and supports the provision of mental health care and psychosocial support services to individuals, families and communities affected by war-related trauma and violence.

As part of these efforts, the project is seeking new partners, Ukrainian organisations ready to join in implementing awareness-raising programmes and outreach with evidence-based services, as well as expanding or improving existing entry points for clients (for example, primary healthcare facilities, schools, community organisations, veterans’ spaces, social service centres).

3. Competition: developing recommendations for improving healthcare budgeting at the local level

The USAID project “Supporting Healthcare Reform” announces a competition for a grant to conduct an analysis of practices in selected regions and to develop recommendations for improving healthcare budgeting at the local level.

The purpose of this grant is to study existing healthcare budgeting practices at the local level in eight selected regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Mykolaiv oblasts). A thorough analysis of the collected data will make it possible to identify current problems in the formation and implementation of local healthcare programmes, barriers to their effective implementation, and to formulate recommendations for improving healthcare budgeting at the local level.

Grant applications must be submitted by 24 March 2024 inclusive.

The total grant amount will not exceed UAH 5,680,000. The grant type is a fixed-amount grant.

4. Annual grant programme for CSOs of up to $100k from USAID/UKAID SOERA

The purpose of the programme is to increase transparency, efficiency and governance in the management of Ukraine’s state-owned enterprises and state assets.

Projects are accepted in the following areas:

- Improving policy, legislation and regulations on the management of state property (SPM).

- Raising awareness and engaging the public in SPM and the management of communal assets.

- Strengthening oversight and increasing the transparency of information on state and communal property.

- Building the capacity of CSOs in the management of state and communal property, corporate governance, public information, the accountability of state-owned/communal enterprises and related areas.

- Supporting, strengthening or monitoring recovery and reconstruction initiatives and accountability.

5. Grant for the development of digital skills

Support for the operation of the “Digital Skills and Jobs” platform: adjustments and adaptive maintenance, fostering cooperation between national coalitions and the digital skills community in Europe, as well as deepening exchange between national coalition websites and the core Platform, increasing the number of national coalitions, and boosting the activity and engagement of existing and new national coalitions.

Within the project, organisations are expected to plan events, communication campaigns and other activities to raise awareness of the need to close the digital skills gap in the EU and to mobilise the community of relevant stakeholders.

Budget: Up to EUR 2,000,000 for each of the two grants.

6. UP TO $5,000, MICROBUSINESS GRANTS FROM THE NORWEGIAN REFUGEE COUNCIL (NRC)

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is launching a new stage of its programme to support business owners who intend to start, restart or relocate their business to Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil or Khmelnytskyi oblasts.

Budget: The assistance will include small financial grants of up to USD 5,000, provided according to the needs of the business. In addition to financial support, participants will undergo business management training and receive technical assistance to make it easier to start, relocate or restart their business.

7. UP TO UAH 70,000, MINI-GRANTS FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN VINNYTSIA AND KIROVOHRAD OBLASTS

The aim of the competition is to support and develop local entrepreneurship in Vinnytsia and Kirovohrad oblasts by providing grants to women who continue to run their businesses under martial law and wish to strengthen and grow their own enterprise.

Expected impact of the business on the development of the region:

- creation of new jobs;

- implementation of social responsibility projects;

- adherence to the “Ripples on Water” principle, providing a free service to clients from low-income categories, IDPs or large families;

- support for domestic producers.

Budget: The competition winners will be 15 business owners, who will each receive UAH 70,000.

8. GRANT COMPETITIONS “WIDENING PARTICIPATION AND SPREADING EXCELLENCE,” HORIZON EUROPE PROGRAMME

The “Widening Participation and Spreading Excellence” competitions help build the research and innovation capacity of countries that are lagging behind in development.

The opportunities under this strand will strengthen the capacity to participate successfully in international research and innovation processes, and will foster the building of connections and access to excellence.

Programme participants will be able to modernise their research and innovation systems, which will make them stronger and allow the EU as a whole to move forward together, in line with the political goals of the European Research Area.

1. “Hop On Facility” competition

This allows research institutions from participating countries to join research and innovation already underway within Pillar II of the Horizon Europe Framework Programme and the EIC Pathfinder, by being involved in a specific task or work package and being allocated a corresponding budget. This can happen on a voluntary basis without infringing on freedom of choice or the principle of excellence.

The Hop On Facility is open to all Pillar II competitions and the European Innovation Council’s Pathfinder programme. Project proposals aimed at achieving the political goals of the green and digital transition are especially encouraged.

Indicative competition budget: EUR 40 million in 2024.

Average grant per project: from EUR 1 to 6 million.

Indicative number of projects: 160.

2. “ERA Talents” competition

Cross-sectoral freedom of movement for talent and cooperation between universities and business for the transfer of knowledge need to be systematised and structured. The European Commission aims to support and stimulate such transformations in order to balance the international and inter-sectoral mobility of talent. The purpose of the competition is to support the training and mobility of researchers, innovators and other talents between sectors, with a particular emphasis on the countries of the “Widening Participation and Spreading Excellence” programme.

Exchanges should mainly take place between research institutions, higher education institutions and non-academic sector organisations from different EU Member States and countries associated with the Horizon Europe Programme. Exchanges within a single country are also possible, provided they aim to support or strengthen a regional innovation ecosystem.

Expected project duration: up to 4 years.

Indicative competition budget: EUR 40 million (in 2024).

Average grant per project: from EUR 1 to 3 million.

Indicative number of projects: 20.

9. Competition “Pandemic preparedness and response: host-pathogen interactions in infectious diseases with epidemic potential”

The competition is aimed at supporting actions that contribute to achieving results in combating diseases and reducing their consequences. Project proposals must include the following key elements:

1) Research into viruses with epidemic potential for a better understanding of host-pathogen interaction mechanisms and the development of vaccines and inhibitors to prevent them and their spread.

2) Development of novel approaches in the prevention and treatment of infections for epidemic and pandemic preparedness.

3) Development of experimental candidate vaccines and other tools for further clinical research.

Budget: EUR 50,000; the expected budget of a single project is EUR 7-8 million.

10. Competition “Pandemic preparedness and response: maintaining European partnerships for pandemic preparedness”

Aim of the competition: Support for activities aimed at achieving the expected results in combating diseases and reducing their consequences under Destination 3.

Expected results:

- A consolidated research and innovation structure for the European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness.

- Shared goals and a common understanding of the long-term Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for the partnership.

- A dynamic and effective secretariat for coordinating research in the field of pandemic preparedness.

- Interaction between healthcare service providers and European and international stakeholders through a research and innovation structure for the partnership.

11. Competition “Developing EU methodological frameworks for clinical/performance evaluation and post-market clinical/performance follow-up of medical devices, including in vitro diagnostics”

Topic: Developing EU methodological frameworks for clinical/performance evaluation and post-market clinical/performance follow-up of medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDs) HORIZON-HLTH-2024-IND-06-08

Aim of the competition: Support for activities aimed at achieving the expected results of Destination 6, “Maintaining an innovative, sustainable and globally competitive health industry.”

Expected results:

- Patients will gain faster access to innovative, safe and effective medical devices.

- Regulators will have access to reliable scientific resources for shaping recommendations on clinical/performance evaluation and developing common specifications under the Medical Device Regulation (MDR).

- Notified bodies will have a harmonised way of assessing clinical evidence at the pre-market and post-market stages.

- Medical technology developers will gain the necessary insights into the evidence needed to demonstrate compliance of medical devices with MDR requirements throughout their entire service life.

Budget: EUR 10 million; indicative number of projects, 1.
